Weaning

Need advice please!

So husband and MIL are both saying I should introdcue baby rice (DS is just 15 weeks FFS). I am getting really cross with them over it and have basically told them both to fark off until they have read up on weaning both of which haven't bothered their arses!

Anyway, Christmas day seems to be the day for us so I am thinking of having DS at the table with us and giving him some veg (parsnip, carrot and brocolli as well as a bit of goose/turkey depending on what we go for. Then I just want to get the camcorder out and watch and have fun!

Is it as easy as my plan or should I just introduce one thing at a time?

I am sure I have read that you give baby something at every meal sitting but I can't find it. Can you confirm? Thinking banana at breakfast and then lunch and an early tea?

Given the backlash I am getting at the moment I feel I really need to be prepared and have an aswer for everything hence the reason I am asking so early. Both seem to think the idea of weaning on Christmas day fun at the moment!

Thanks for any help!

OK, I am no expert, but my son is nearly 5 months old, and only just ready to consider weaning.

Your child will TELL you when they are ready - when they show an interest in other foods etc.,

Why not start by having them on your lap when you eat and take their cue on when they are interested in other foods?

Honestly, MHO is you will be sadly disappointed if you expect him to tuck into christmas lunch... He'll just look at it like 'what the fark is this???'

But, as I say, I'm not an expert.

He's starting to show an interest now. He watches when we are eating lunch in front of the TV!

I won't rush him but I just need to be clear in my mind about what I am doing.

I am not expecting him to tuck into lunch with us on the day. He will be 6 months at that time and I would like to "try" him only. I am not going to force the stuff down his neck.

It's hard work when I have her in my ear narking on about how my husband slept through at 4 weeks on rice and banana every day. Despite me telling her to fuck off and keep her beak out she runs crying to DH saying I am being rude!

OK! Can you tell I have had a couple of glasses of wine tonight. I apologise if I am off on a tangent but I need to have an answer for everything at the moment,

Why not - it'll be fun anyway ! My DS was 7 months old his first christmas, and all the grandparents spent their entire meals staring at him eating and commenting on how wonderful it was. And if nothing else, it'll keep your DS occupied throwing the food around

your answer is 'the hv will kill me cos she's told me if i wean early he'll get allergies'. (it's more complex than that obv).

or 'give me a break, you had your chance with dh'.

and wrt the watching you eat... he watches you do everything. it's not relevant, despite how much your mil tells you. based on that, my mother would hsve made me wean dd1 at 8 weeks.

I agree with Aitch - My DS watches me eat, but if food is shown to him, he has no interest in it (IYSWIM)

I do like the 'Oh you had your chance' line, but really not sure how well it would go down!! (Probably as well as the carrots, parsnips etc., on Christmas day!!)

Actually, I'd be more worried about the fact that your hubby is so happy to take his mum's advice - he should (at least in part) listen to you - You are the one who is doing this NOW - NOT 30 years ago!!!
