Tripp Trapp vs BabyDan highchairs...

designerbaby · 09/04/2008 10:11

Ok, so I like the idea of baby sitting at the table with us, and the idea of a highchair which grows with the child... However, £160 seems like a LOT of money for a highchair.

The BabyDan seems almost the same as the Tripp Trapp but for £100 less...

Am I missing something? (Apart from the funky colourways?)

Any experience??
Thanks muchly

hi. i have a babydan....its been great. can't really find fault with it.

we stopped using the padded seat cusion thing very early on...it needed machine washing after every meal!

my ds is now 21 months and loves being sat at the table with the rest of us.

no idea about the babydan.

have the tripp trapp and it is fab! DS loves it, is so easy to clean.

I also love my tripp trapp but didn't bother with the seat cushions at all as it is easier to clean without them.

I got my natural wood one for £100 clearance price including baby set from

these people but they appear to only have random colours in clearance at the moment.

there's no need to use the seat cushion while they're still in nappies anyway - they have enough padding!

our dining table is in the living room so we got a tripp trapp in a colour to match the table and chairs, which was worth the money as qwe have to look at it all day every day

tripp trapp is excellent - I love ours. My friend has also just found this great table she has bought for hers called tippity tap or something like that.

another vote for the Tripp Trapp, our DS is very tall for his age, so being able to adjust the seat and footrest was a key thing. We also like him sitting at the table, and the chair matches the rest, so looks as though it belongs. We looked at the BabyDan too, but I just preferred the look of the Tripp Trapp, and as it was the only baby item we bought new and will hopefully last for years and years, I decided it was worth the extra.

The TT is also incredibly stable - DS can climb up on it on his own, and pushes it around the kitchen so that he can stand at the sink and washup (not my idea I hasten to add !).
The height adjustment also means that they stay at the same relative height to the table as they grow.
Incredibly strong too - I sit on it sometimes to peel veg at the kitchen worktop.

We have a TT. Got it when DD was 5 months and it has had almost daily use since then. DD is now 6y and still uses it, as a chair. Infact she is sat on it, at her table doing craft right now.

It is very stable. We have used it for nearly 6y with DD plus various other visiting children. None have managed to pull it over or anything.

And it cleans easily and well. Ours looks in fab conditin still. Just a wipe down is all it requires.

And it looks good too.

I hav a babydan that I got cheap off ebay.
it's ok, but the one problem I have with it is very annoying.
that is, I needed to lower the seat so that it would fit under our table (the whole reason I bought it) ,then I found that you can't fit the baby set on with the seat in a lower position.
so, that's really annoying. we have actually done it by fashioning a new crotch strap out of a belt.

but, would possibly buy a tripp trapp if I was doing it again

mammatulip = I really don't like the look of that one, with all the gaudy colours, etc. Never seen it before.

We have a BabyDan and have had it since ds was about 9 months. He's now 4.4 and it is still as fab as ever. I think it looks a bit more stylish than the Tripp Trapp - but in essence, they are the same as far as I can see.
