Refusing spoon. Need 'picky' food ideas?!

My son is 10 months old. Up until now he's taken to weaning really well. From 6 months we have done a mixture of spoon fed purees (moving on to textured purees) and food he can feed himself with his hands. Recently, I've noticed he is refusing the spoon a lot more, and turns his head when I try to feed him anything.

I understand that this is likely him developing independence with food and him wanting to be in control of what he eats. I tried giving him the spoon to try to feed himself but he just throws it around. He's great with picking up food from his tray such as peas, blueberries etc but anything mushy like cottage pie he doesn't attempt to pick up.

I suppose what I'm getting at is that I'm running out of ideas of what to give him that isn't mushy/needs a spoon and enough to fill him as a meal.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm starting to stress that he's not eating enough.

Veggie fingers cut up
Anything with mash made into little balls, so shepherds pie for example, a little mince rolled up into a ball with mash and a pea. Or have mashed turnip as the veg.

Have you tried so he has a spoon and you have one too? So while he’s distracted waving his, you shovel the food in with yours.

Cheesy tomato pasta is DD's fave.

Both of mine loved these cheese straws. How about porridge fingers too.

Sausages make a great finger food, just cut them lengthways to minimise the choking risk. Any strips of meat would be ok as well.

Cheese and broccoli muffins - trust me they are delicious and freeze well. You need:
6 cooked broccoli florets chopped, 6 cherry tomatoes chopped, 120g grated cheddar cheese, 230g self raising flour, 180ml whole milk, 3 tablespoons olive oil, 1 beaten egg
Preheat oven to 180C. Mix flour, cheese and chopped broccoli in bowl, add chopped tomatoes, milk, oil and egg and mix well.
Grease 12 hole muffin tin and spoon batter in ( I put mine in cases as have never been convinced about non stick tins)
Bake for 25 or until golden
They will keep for a couple of days but freeze well. Defrost and microwave for 20 seconds to warm.

Two spoons. He holds one. You fill the other and move it close to his mouth. If he opens you put it in, if he grabs you let him out it in himself.

Or lay a filled spoon on his tray.

Try to worry tho, if his weight is ok and he seems fine in himself, he'll be ok. Their growth rate fluctuates, sometimes they just eat less.

We do blw and don't pay that much attention to what DS (10mo) eats, he's fine.
