I would be really grateful if anyone had any recipes they would be willing to share or advice on how to make homemade purée for a 8 month old.

Many thanks

I dont have any recipes but I was just wondering why are you pureeing food for a 8 month old when they have the capability to eat normal meals and its alot easier??

Because that's what I want to do thanks for your input

I should clarify not totally purées but food that is spoon fed. Me and dh are on restrictive diet so not suitable to mash lettuce Grin

I obviously know the common foods but hoping for recipes with things to go with avocados etc

The "wholesome babyfood" site is pretty good and has lots of basic template recipes that can be adapted. And general hints and tips (like lists of things that do not freeze or puree well).

Mostly, it is a question of simmering things, putting them in a blender with a little liquid or no-salt stock, and pureeing, adding more liquid if it seems to require it.

Meat and leafy vegetables are the most worth putting your time into IMO, as these are things that babies without (many) teeth really do have difficulty chewing unless they are mashed up.

Thanks for that @Kokeshi123. That's a really helpful site. We do have a toothless 8 month old that just can't master breaking food up. I did do BLW with my first but she had teeth and was able to break it down to swallow. So thats why I'm really stuck with how to do mashed food and recipe ideas as I never did it before and never really paid it attention BlushBlush

My DD (6.5m with one lone tooth) loves anything mashed on toast - banana, avocado, egg.
Scrambled egg is also really good, can be spoon fed or baby can pick it up.
I pureed a selection of fruit and veg and froze them, now just lift out portions to mix and match to give her some different flavours - sweet potato, broccoli, cauliflower etc.
Its all a bit trial and error I'm afraid.
DD would happily eat just bread (definitely my daughter) Wink

Just realized you were asking about preparing purees - I just boiled the veg until it was soft then pureed with a hand blender. Adding some of the cooking water to thin it down if need be. When I first started everything was very smooth, but gradually introducing a few soft lumps now as we go.

I highly recommend the Annabel Kercher books. Lots of brilliant recipes in there. There are ingredients you wouldn't dream of mixing that are actually gorgeous. I even find myself enjoying them! Oh and the baby hasn't had any complaints yet either.
