Stomach cramps during weaning

My little boy has just started weaning- we're on Day 10. He is exactly 6months old today.
We've started slowly with just carrots, potato, sweet potato and apples (all smooth purées) and he enjoyed toast fingers a few days ago.
However, he's just started to refuse to go down to sleep at night, lots of night-wakings and insecurity. Stomach cramps/ arching his back etc. Is this a developmental side-effect of a new 'thing' in his life or is he struggling to digest the food? I don't know what to do for the best: stop for a few weeks or push through. He does also have a bit of a cough/ cold that he caught from his brother.

We have a hospital appt in two weeks where he needs to be able to eat a spoonful of peanut butter for a controlled allergy test so I want to carry on with weaning so I can still attend that important appt (but obviously not at the expense of his immediate health)...

Thoughts? X

Yes, unfortunately, it can be hard on their tummies to start and what you’re describing sounds pretty normal. It’s possible it’s also teething related too. I would just carry on but go slowly, just one meal a day until things settle down a bit.

Agree with Mindutopia. I’d just offer food once a day and if it affecting his sleep at night, try giving him the solids around breakfast time so he’s got chance to digest them throughout the day Smile

Albanyd- can I ask why you are doing the peanut butter thing? I have a 4.5 month baby and a severe nut allergy. I've spoken to my HV about weaning and the current guidelines about nut introduction -got a bit of a blank look and no real advice. Are you to do this test because of a family history of allergy? How did you find out about this/get referred to testing?

I will never be offering mine pb myself as chances are that would cause a reaction in me but if the early exposure theory is correct I'd like to find away to get some peanut butter into her in the hope of avoiding allergy.
Hope your test goes well and your wee one is more settled!
Thanks!
