Hi, my little girl was a great eater at first when I introduced foods at 6 months. She had purees and some finger foods. Trouble is when i try introduce anything with lumps in ( like chopped up pasta) she either gags and vomits or refuses after the first spoon. I'm guessing this is normal? Or Not? How to I get around it? Anything with potato in makes her gag immediately, again is this normal as they are quite pasty? Would like her to be able to eat stews with the family.

Try giving her whole pieces of pasta, and roasted potato/sweet potato wedges that she can pick up. She might still gag a bit sometimes, but she will probably sort herself out if you let her control what is going in her mouth. You can also try putting foods (like e.g. cottage pie) onto the spoon, but then laying the spoon on her high-chair tray and letting her pick it up herself.

My DS was the same with lumps and he had tongue tie, has your DD been checked?

Agree with the finger foods thing. I’d just skip the purees and give her the food. My DS could feed himself things like cheese on toast but couldn’t manage lumpy purée so we just stopped trying Smile

Hi both - thank you. She had a tongue tie snip at 11 days and it doesn't look to have reattached. I'll go more down the finger food route, just bought ingredients for a load of recipes. A massive tooth has appeared this morning so I'm guessing part of the fussiness may be that too x
