Hi all..

My dd is 26 weeks, she was breastfed but is not bottle fed

We have been weaning now for a couple of weeks and I'm really struggling with how much she is getting

I have given her baby rice from a spoon she seems to like it but tends to accept the spoon and then push the rice out of her mouth, same with yoghurt, veg purée/veg soup etc

I have given her finger food veg, carrot, broccoli, sweet potato, potato mainly has carrot), when she has these she gets excited picks them up and chews on them, but when small pieces break off she just pushes them out of her mouth, whenever she swallows or keeps it in her mouth she gaggs

It's the same with water, I give her water from a cup she gets excited sips and then spits it out

Is this normal? I'm worried she's not getting the nutrients etc she needs

Any advice or tips would be much appreciated?!

Thank you x

Yes it’s normal. Some babies take to it straight away, others (like mine!) spend longer experimenting but not really eating.
She’ll be getting all the nutrients she needs from breastmilk - food before one is just for fun!

It is normal and you don't need to worry about nutrients yet. However, you also don't need to stick to veg- she can have anything so long as it's low in salt (less than 1g a day), no honey and no whole nuts. Also chop grapes and cherry toms length ways.

So she can have toast and houmous, cheese, yogurt, meat, pasta... anything you're having basically!

It's normal. Keep on with milk.

We've been weaning about 6 weeks now and I'm sure 90% of anything DS takes is dribbled or pushed out until the last few days when he's let me spoon feed him some yoghurt

But leave the baby rice, it's basically wallpaper paste

Yep, baby rice isn’t nutritional at all. I’d leave it!
