Weaning

Am I right to start BLW now?

DD is 24 weeks and over the last week I've been giving her sticks of fruit and veggies which she has mostly tasted and thrown in a very disgusted manner across the room. However she LOVES mango and makes very cute little mmmm noises while sucking furiously.

My question is, should I have waited until 26 weeks? I tried a spoon and mush for a couple of days and she flattly refuses (just grabs it off of me) so thought I'd just offer the finger food and see what happens. Anyway, in my usual paranoid way I'm worried that I should have waited I just got a bit carried away because she keeps grabbing my food so thought I'd give her her own. If she's doing it all herself am I right in thinking that she's developmentally ready and that 2 weeks aren't going to make much difference?

you are probably right in thinking that, if you agree with the Rapley research. good luck with everything.

Oh - My daughter started herself at about 23/ 24 weeks - couldn't keep her off my food. You are, I expect, doing fine and dandy.

if you go by blw then she probably won't really eat much of the food you give her to play with until she is nearer 26 weeks. so at first yes she'll maybe suck on some fruit. but then around 26 weeks, or later, she'll be more like biting and chewing it up and then swallowing it. gill rapley's study discusses giving babies food from 4 months, and the findings were that proper eating started at around 26 weeks.

Thanks all, just begining to realise how much easier BF is to weaning! Still, hopfully BLW will be the least painful route!!
