Weaning

Did your babies dislike any foods when being weaned?

and how did you know for certain?

Ds isnt really enjoying the whole weaning thing.
There are only a few things he will happily eat, like mango, apple, banana and butternut squash.
Everything else he just squirms at. I'm wondering if its because he doesnt like the other things I have offered him.

My dd disliked just about every food when weaning her. Even now, she's 17 months, and only eats what she likes, which is limited.

mash potato. Just gaged on it. I think it was a texture thing. If you take it away and offer something else she would happily down the lot.

Liked everything except avocado.

Does your ds prefer the sweeter things, YellowFeather?

Sounds like your DS likes sweet stuff! I found offering lots of different things to be a good way of getting my DS to eat a broad variety of things. If he spat something out I would stop immediately and try again in a day or so. If he spat it out again I wouldn't bother again until he was a bit older.

You could try other foods, similar in taste to the ones you mention to try to get her to enjoy more e.g.

Yam (was my DS's favourite)
Pear
Pumpkin

You could also try mixing different flavours, Apple and Plum was another favourite.

Good luck

Maybe he does have a sweet tooth.
Tbh I thought it was a bit of a myth that babies dislike foods. I'm not used to it. Dd was an amazing eater. She had everything put infront of her.

I've done a bit of BLW with him and just given him bits of food of our plate which he seems to enjoy.
I havent been offering everyday either so that might have something to do with it.

Oh yes, mashed potato, peas, anything with either of those in it. DS definitely had a sweet tooth. They grow out of it though, especially if you don't get het up at any rejections. He'll eat almost anything now, and loves mashed spud and peas. they also go through phases. Some days he won't touch toast. Other days that's all he wants.

does he have a pincer grip yet? try frozen peas if so.

DS hated banana with a passion for the first few months of solids. Pulled a face like I was trying to poison him Everything else he chomped away on...but suddenly he started eating them & now eats at least one a day....always the first thing he asks for if I ask if hes hungry & apparently my bm tastes like banana as well

My ds hated any fruit - and still does. Loves practically all vegetables (including his favourite, sprouts!) but won't touch fruit. He seems to be growing up fit and healthy, but I find it very strange in a fruit loving family that he won't touch it!

hated avocado. Which is supposed to be a superfood, or something. Of course.

It's about the only thing he doesn'y go for.

pears, until we just gave him a wedge instead of mush, he was happy then.

DS eats pretty much anything really- been lucky so far.

Mine hated plain baby rice but loved the fruit ones.

He also disliked strong tasting veg like sprouts and cauliflower.

Will back that up malaleche. Gave her a jar of something called bluberry and vanilla creme. Absolutely disgusting!

Every one told me babies would love mashed parsnip - despite shoveling most things down mine gave that the thumbs down. He likes most jars but I bought a leek and noodle organic one from Boots and it was a flat refusal - when I tasted it I realised it was vile!!!! So far the Hipp Jars are the only ones I've tasted that could possibly resemble real food.

DizzyDave · 21/02/2007 15:44

no she likes everything.

Hipp is the only one i would trust anyway. I still give the fruit ones to dd1, now 3.4 yo, as a pudding mixed with plain yoghurt - mmmmmm
