Do apples cause constipation?

Just after a bit of advice from those who have gone before...

Just started weaning DD, she was constipated last week (small, hard-ish poos) and seemed unsettled. I thought it may have been porrige so stopped giving that and gave her some pears which seemed to do the trick!

I gave her some pear mixed with apple yesterday and she seems constipated again - I was just wondering if apples could cause constipation and if it wasn't the porrige after all? Or if it was both? Or if this is just normal when babies are weaned?

DD got constipated on anything when I started weaning (too young, 17 weeks, but that was the fashion then...).
Anyway, with DD it was actually a problem of too little fluid intake which persisted until she was 6yo, I suppose, and caused no end of associated problems.

I don't know if your DD is just adjusting or really having a problem, sounds more like the former, tbh, poos are indeed more solid post weaning in most cases.

I think it's too little liquid too. I have that problem after giving birth to my DD and bf. The HV told me it's very common coz I wasn't drinking enough water. (I have a semi vegetarian diet so it can't be the fibre). If you think about it. All the baby first food is fibre rich isn't it. I guess you can always try prunes and apricot. They are known to keep us regular

Apples contain pectin, which is binding. So, it is possible. My DS has had awful constipation and so I am going easy with bananas and apples. Try mixing prunes with other fruits.

I've heard so - cos of the pectin. Don't know how true it is. With 6+ poos a day DD needs all the apples she can get!
