Weaning

Early days but no interest in 'first stage' food?

As per the title really. Have been weaning for about a week and was v excited about it! (probably a bit too excited really) DD is pretty good on finger foods like toast and rice cakes - no swallowing yet but gets lots in her mouth, ears, etc. I thought I'd try a combined approach with a bit of spoonfed stuff as well, but she will have one mouthful, spit it out then clamp her mouth shut and turn her head away. I know it's food for fun until they're one and all that, but I thought with first stage stuff most babies would take it almost straight away?

I know I'm being impatient but how long would you expect it to take before a 6mo would swallow something - just a morsel would do!

have you thought about just doing baby-led weaning for now? see if she'll dip her toast in purees/yoghurts if you want to use them - but there's no harm in letting her find her own way :) FWIW, DS was like this until about 9 months when he suddenly refused to pick up food and would scream until we spoon fed him Hmm he's still like that sometimes at 21 months actually, which is annoying!

try steamed carrot sticks and broccoli - they are great finger foods, and the baby will look very cute eating them too :o plus they are easy to see in the nappy afterwards! :o

have fun!
