Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite?

My DS is turning 7 this month. The only thing he wants is a Nintendo Switch so he can play Mario. We're happy to get it for him (with strict limits to how much he plays!). The problem is we're living in the dark ages and really have no idea about these things. I've done a quick search and see the Nintendo Switch Lite is almost £100 cheaper than the normal Switch so I'd prefer to get that. He really just wants to play a few games, nothing else. Is the Lite version OK for this? Is there anything the Switch can do that the Lite doesn't do? What are the pros and cons for each model? Thanks in advance!

The normal one can be plugged into a TV or be a portable console (like a game boy) whereas the lite one is just like a game boy, I think? So that's quite a huge difference.

We got ds the main switch for Christmas and the main difference is you can connect it to the tv whereas the lite is a hand held device. Just so we can play family games on the tv ( I treated myself to the Zumba one )

You can play on the tv with the Switch but not the Switch lite, and you can also play multiplayer with the main Switch even without the tv as you can have the screen separate to the controllers on the side and play games on the go but multiplayer.

Oh are the controllers attached with the lite as well? That's not so good. Sounds like the proper one is definitely worth it unless you only ever play alone.

Thanks all. I had no idea the lite didn't hook up to the TV! Glad I asked.

I've got the Switch and it's really good being able to play it on the TV sometimes when dd wants to play co-op with me.

If your mobile phone contract is up for renewal it's worth seeing if any companies are giving them away with the package, dd wanted her own for her birthday so my husband upgraded his phone and got a free Switch.
He's with EE and I think that offer has now finished but Virgin were doing it too.

@Gertie75 Thanks, I'll look in to that. Getting one for free would be amazing!
