Hi there, I’m looking for a bit of advice and your wise knowledge and experience is much appreciated.
I’m to have an empty nest before I know it and with all that time on my hands (to stop pestering my lovely dds) wanted to get back into gaming; had dd who were not into computer games so I have been out of the picture for nearly twenty years apart from the family Wii (fortnite and minecraft have passed me by 😆).
Before children I had a Play station, which I’d bought in our local Woolworths, and adored playing resident evil 2 and silent hill. My brother just told me to buy some gaming magazines and see what I liked (think he was getting a bit annoyed with my ignorance) but to be honest I was so overwhelmed and was a bit confused as the play station and Xbox seemed to very similar and have moved on somewhat. Anyone have any wise words to just point me in the right direction? I think what I’m looking for is a beginners guide...

I'd go with PS4. Excellent game selection including the better choice of exclusives IMO compared to XBox. We have pretty much every console known to man, but the PS4 gets the most use by far (and we have two of them Blush)

There's a remastered Resident Evil that's recently been released, and loads of horror/survival type games around now for both consoles so you'll have plenty to play whatever you pick.

I've got a Switch and love it, Zelda Breath of the Wild is a phenomenal game.

I love how portable it is too, I can easily take it to our caravan or go and sit in another room to play plus I can have the TV on in the background too.

I'm not into car racing or combat games and I found that the majority of PS and Xbox games were those genres.

XBox all the way for me! Minecraft is enduring as there's so much you can do. Skyrim is epic and easy to get right into. There's 'XBox Gold' which costs about £30 and means you can play online games with others if you want plus with Gold you get 3 free games a month. Some are big but old releases and some are smaller, indie type games but it means you get to play stuff you wouldn't normally for free. I think PS had something similar too.
