controller for windows laptop

DS (10) would like to buy a controller in order to play on our (>6 years old, to be honest, slightly temperamental) windows 10 laptops.

I am slightly nervous about 3rd party controllers as I forsee all sorts of heartache not being able to get them to work.

I also don't want to be in a situation where he needs to install drivers and we spend hours trying to find elusive programmes on the internet to make it work and then needing to navigate installing them. It's not that I can't do that, but I am not keen ...

And the final issue is that he only has 30GBP (of which 10 is an amazon token)

Is there any way to buy an official microsoft controller for this price (all in, not needing extra money on batteries or random things to connect it) - a wired one is showing up at 55 on amazon at the moment

I would probably be happy to buy his amazon token off him, if there are cheap reputable suppliers.

OR are there any cheaper controllers... that you might recommend.

Sigh. I could tell him to save up for longer

I was looking myself earlier this year. Official controllers are so expensive now. But if a third-party controller is compatible with XBox 360/One then it's almost certainly compatible with your PC too
