Batman Gotham App

I have just bought the batman Gotham game for iPad for my son and he cannot move past the first area as we cannot see where or how to get the hazard protection suits that are apparently required! Googling just seems to show info that presumes you know how to get the suit. Please help if you can. He waited patiently until I said he could have it and was so excited, poor thing is so frustrated. I am not into games and have no idea!
