Are they any good? Which are the least 'rough'. What are Haven like? Any suggestions please?!!!!

Desperately trying to book a holiday for our family and not sure where to start! 4-5 adults and 2 under 5s. Not top end as a bit skint but certainly not bargain basement please!

Fifi,
We love Center parcs but when money has been short we have done both Haven and Park Resorts, and also have done Butlins years ago
(before children, lots of alcohol consumed)
None of them were really 'rough' - eg have never witnessed drunken fighting, or any police incidents. All of the caravans are close together, so if you are after privacy they are not the thing for you. The sites are not as well maintained or as clean as centre parcs imo

butlins is good if you can rent from the private caravans on site. butlins at minehead has a private caravan site set around a lake at the edge of the site. you can get the benefit of all the amenities but be away from the centre and get better accomodation.

ebay is a good place to find private rents on sites like haven; butlins etc.

Did CP in Dec and liked it but its way too expensive for us in the summer.

Not sure I could persuade DH to do Butlins tbh.

Was thinking more of chalets/lodges rather than caravans.

Thanks for replies.

Was thinking N Wales. Needs to be in the middle between relatives in Liverpool and friends in London.

Butlins have good accomodation if you go a slight bit higher, we go every year and stay in a Gold apartment, it isn't at all rough the food is reasonable and there is alot for the children to do as well as night time entertainment.

I would advise you not to go to Bognor Butlins though i live very close to it and it is a rough as hell.

Hi,

As another poster has said caravans at Butlins Minehead are available . I own one and if you want to know more details I can give you available dates and prices.

Thanks Judith. I will consult and get back to you if need to. Not sure my SIL would stay in a caravan. She has a caravan budget but a luxury lodge aspiration!

Haven't been myself but I have heard good things about Greenacres in the Llyn Peninsula.

Report
TotalChaos · 11/04/2009 09:27

yes I've heard greenacres is meant to be nice. I've stayed at hafan y mor which is a few miles away from greenacres, and enjoyed that, would definitely return. I would say that the basic accommodation is travelodge standard (but of course you do get a full kitchen), not sure what the superior caravans are like though. Hafan y Mor has a nice boating lake, and it's own woodland walk and (somewhat muddy!)beach

Have been to Haven before at Norfolk, and have enjoyed it.Caravan was very nice, entertainment good for children.

Also been to Bognor Regis Butlins which was great, wasn't rough at all.Lots of "lower income" Families(horrible label) maybe as its a good value break, but all the families we met and spoke to were really nice,no trouble or rudeness.

I think alot of the Holiday parks are nice, best to pick one near outside attractions,so you can use both.

Park resorts and Parkdean are meant to be nice.

We go to some Haven and only one was abit 'lively' and had police there are the time. The others are fine and full of mostly 'normal' types people!!

When we went to Haven, there was Crazy Golf,Bikes to ride Go-Karts,Football,netball and lots of Kids Club activities all in the "programme" throughout the day.

Butlins had lots for all ages too. My DS is 13 and my DD's are 4&2.

Just meant regardless of income, wherever you go you can meet people who seem totally unreasonable, and just rude.

I made that statement as most lower income families can't afford CP unless theres a deal on (I know we can't)so yes Butlins have many people there who may struggle to go elsewhere, that hasn't so many deals. However, despite there being a mixed bunch there we haven't seen it as a "Rough" place etc.as previously described.

Didn't mean any offence.

no offence taken sawyer was a very much tounge in cheek reply from me.

And I second that rude people are found in every class . And yep Cp is out for me was at price I want gold plated taps at least for that

Report
Sawyer64 · 12/04/2009 16:27

Lol at the "Gold Plated Taps".Great Place but very pricey.

Butlins was good though,we went at Easter last year and we had 50% off,for a family of 5 that made it much more affordable.
