Can anyone recommend somewhere to eat close to M4 (on Swansea to Newport stretch)

I'm doing the Swansea 10K tomorrow , and I know I will be absolutely starving (as will dh and dd) by the time I finish. I don't fancy stopping at service stations, so can anyone recommend an alternative like a good pub please?

Do you want a pub in Swansea or on the motorway? I can do Swansea itself....

In Swansea you could try:

The Bay View (on the seafront, St Helen's Road)
The Pump House (in the Marina, by the museum)

in Mumbles you could go to a number of places but head to the lighthouse, park in the big car park and have an Italian meal overlooking the sea

anymore?

Good luck with the 10k, by the way!

Open to ideas either in Swansea or off the M4 llareggub

Ooh the italian overlooking the sea sounds great. The run will go down to the Mumbles, the only prob is that I don't know how long they will keep the road shut for...however I could definitely do pasta/ pizza post run if we can drive there (don't fancy walking 3 miles after the run ). What's the italian called please?

Is Cardiff too far? I'm wracking my brains...

Nope Cardiff would be good too - although we'd be looking to eat around 3, so would need to be serving then.

here it is

I highly recommend going to Joe's Ice Cream Parlour after for the best ice cream you'll ever taste...

I would second all of those suggestions, it could take you a good 40 minutes to even get to the M4 depending on when you leave, by which time you may have starved to death!

I can't compete with Castellamare. Haven't eaten there but locationwise it's pretty good.

Off the M4 near Cardiff:

Castell Mynach pub near Llantrisant which does nice pub food. About a mile off the motorway at Junction 34, turn left off the slip road and it's straight up the road on the right.

I was going to suggest the cafe at Castell Coch (actual castle rather than a pub) off Junction 32, but I couldn't swear it serves that late. I'd have thought so though. Mostly jacket spuds and sandwiches but they always do a special of some sort and good cawl. Nice little place and you could explore the castle too.

Oh thank you everyone! I've booked a table at Castellamare however I'm printing off this thraed in case we do decide to head off early, in which case I'll use your ideas Pea

I will definitely go to Joe's

We ended up in the Cafe Bar at Castellamare (I decided I was far too stinky post run to inflict myself on the restaurant). Great view, blue skies, v.g pizza - just what I needed post run. Thanks

I'm glad you liked it. I did worry, I always do when I recommend places. When I was a teenager it used to be a nightclub called Neptunes, and I have some very fond (albeit hazy) memories of nights out there!

aww thanks eleanorsmum. I'll bear that in mind for future trips - we enjoyed today so much that we've resolved to go to the Mumbles more often.

I know what you mean llareggub. I once recommended a restaurant to some of dh's mates from Uni - they moaned for Britain; steak over-cooked, wine too warm - they needed a good slap IMO . Anyway, you needn't have worried, your recommendation was spot on for what we needed
