Bala and Wales advice please

I'd love to take DS white water rafting in Wales. There is a super looking place offering this in Bala.

We would need to make a weekend of it, possibly borrowing a friends caravan or maybe considering the fact that there may be persistent rain, finding air b&b type accommodation.

I know Wales is a stunning place, but I don't know it well at all. Is Bala a nice place to be for a weekend? If not can anyone suggest somewhere not too far away please?

I’ve been to Bala. We stayed in Forest fields campsite. Lovely place with a lake you can swim/paddle board and kayak in. They lend out kayaks too.

I've been to Bala twice - spent 4 days camping there earlier this month and stayed in a hotel there a few years ago too. It's lovely - very peaceful, beautiful landscape, and Bala lake is great for swimming/boating/paddle Boarding as PP said.

I am actually from Bala.
Since you are going to do a specific activity it will be fine.
The town itself has a few cafes, lots of pubs, but make sure you head to the lounge's as the bar is where all the locals go and will look at you as if you have two heads if you dare to enter.
It has a few takeaways, pizza, Indian and a couple of chip shops.
Shops wise it basically has a co - op and a spar, one or two gift shops.
Bala lake is beautiful, there is a Bala lake railway which runs along one side which is worth a trip. Lots of nice walks off the beaten track.
I would not recommend swimming, over the years there have been several drownings and not to frighten you some bodies have never been recovered as the lake is so deep and one very recently.

Did you look at Llangollen? We just see loads of people in canoes every time we go?
Bit more Going on but Bala lake is very nice, all depends on what you want, Barmouth isn't far from Bala and a bit busier.
