Booked a cottage last minute cant get in until 4pm due to Covid and cleaning etc and we have to leave at 10am on the day of departure but just wondering when it says leave the cottage how you found it or words to that effect does that mean I have to pack up, clean floors bathrooms etc all before 10am?

Yes, I'd say so.

But by 'cleaning' I would understand that to mean clean in the sense of tidying up, emptying everything into the main bin, wiping down the kitchen worktops, brushing the floors and making sure the sink and toilet are clean.

I don't start dusting skirting boards and scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees...

Airbnb normally add a cleaning charge to the booking so i don't think they expect you to dust, hoover and clean the bathrooms etc. I'd just make sure it's tidy as you found it, put the bins out if there's any instructions to do so, and I usually strip the beds that have been used.

Thanks property ok standard wise but not been given any or found any instructions re what to do when we leave.

We just tidy up, our dishes away and empty the bins etc. We don't 'clean', just leave it tidy.

As long as you don leave a sink full of dirty dishes, empty beer cans/ fag packets strewn all over and a fridge full of mouldy food you’ll be fine. I don’t expect my guests to dust, hoover, mop floors (unless they’ve had a spillage) or strip beds, that’s for my cleaners to manage.

I regularly clean a few air bnb’s for a living.
Our property has the same request (leave it as you find it). This generally means that we expect the guests to:

Take the rubbish and recycling out the back
Strip the beds
Put all towels in the bath
Put all dishes in the dishwasher and start cycle

Generally just leave it tidy.

Air B&B cleaner here..
I appreciate it if you :
Take your rubbish.
Strip the beds.
Don't leave toe nails on the rugs.
Or poo in the loo!!
Many thanks!!
*Stripping of the bed is Covid times only..
*Toe nails every time..

I have a cottage and that means you leave it superficially tidy. So rubbish and recycling out. Any dishes in the dishwasher. Towels in the bath or utility type stuff. Obviously wipe up anything sticky/ spills as you go but wouldn't expect cleaning just not for stuff to have been left out.

oh yes, if there's a dishwasher I might put it on as we leave but wouldn't leave it with dirty dishes in.....sounds like that's ok!

They don't always - the host of our last Airbnb made a point of saying that he didn't add an extra cleaning charge so could we please leave it as we found it.

Right, because I want to spent the last day of my holiday doing more cleaning and tidying than I would in my own home hmm

We always do the things outlined above - wipe down surfaces, dishwasher on, strip beds etc - but I'll be damned if I am going to mop floors and scrub toilets on my holiday.

I suggested to that host that (a) this should be made clear in the listing and (b) there should be an option to pay for cleaning.

Thats what I thought TheWayOfTheWorld. We couldn’t get in until 4pm on arrival day and have to be out for 10am on departure so I not going to get up at dawn pack up and have everyone else waiting in the car whilst I hoover, dust, mop, clean the bathroom thoroughly.

@TheWayOfTheWorld That's ridiculous! Also a recipe for disaster as people don't clean in the same way. I wouldn't be at all happy with that.
