Off to Saachi Gallery on Saturday for the day with hubby and 13 year old girl. Spending morning in Harvey Nics as she loves shopping but would love a recommendation for somewhere interesting for dinner, we are from Birmingham so want something very 'cool London' - any suggestions

Sexy fish or sketch, not for the food - just for the insta photos!
Any of the millions of flower filled cake shops ( there’s an elan outside Harrods with flowers & a fairground horse) Peggy Porschen also popular for the flower & cake Instagram pictures ( kings road or Ebury Street)

If you can get a table

Dinner, it’s opposite Harvey Nics too

Or this has a recent good review but it’s a bit of a pain to get to, there’s one in Soho too though

Inamo?

Depends how expensive/fancy you want?

I would probably go for the new Ivy Asia in St Paul’s for a teenager, it looks lovely and will have great views www.theivyasia.com/

For nice cakes/desserts I would definitely recommend L’Eto - there’s one on Wardour Street in Soho and a couple of others

What kind of food?
Bocca di Lupo is lovely Italian in Soho.
Darjeeling Express really lovely curry just off Carnaby Street.
Hawksmoor are amazing steak houses.
Dean St Townhouse is a fab experience, you just get so well looked after and they do amazing comfort type food.

My teen son loved dinner as pp mentioned, but also Lucky Cat, Gordon Ramsey's oriental themed restaurant as it's all sharing mini plates (like tapas) so he could try lots of different food- we also like Oblix in The Shard, whenever I have friends visiting with teens they think it's really cool to head there.

There's a great Korean bbq where you have a little grill built into your table and cook it yourself- quirky and tasty and not to expensive, and in a central location. Don't let the name put you off- it's fun there. Superstar BBQ

I presume you're going to the Tutankhamen exhibition, which I thought was great by the way.

We stumbled across Comptoir Libanese restaurant by accident, it was on the way to the Sloane Sq tube. It was a great find, they managed to squeeze the 5 of us in, one vegetarian and one fussy teen. It was a lovely atmosphere, really friendly and the food was delicious and surprisingly very reasonable price - a fortuitous find 😁

Sketch is amazing but a bit pricey after paying train and exhibition tickets but thanks for recommendation - would prefer to go with other half for cocktails

Well, have finally decided to go to The Jam on Kings Road as this looks a bit mad - I wanted quirky mad - food was secondary as wanted an experience that she couldn't get in Brum. Tutankhamen followed by high up dining - should be fun and thanks for all the other tips. I lived in London in 1990 - Chiswick & Wimbledon so really out of touch these days.

I see you've already decided by for a cool restaurant with great food that's not expensive I'd say circolo poppulare or gloria (same chain)

Sketch just had a terrible review in the evening standard. It’s also very expensive.
Bocca di Lupo is expensive-ish but you can rely on the food being really good.
Mildred’s ( various branches) is very well rated vegetarian.
Jose is a buzzy tapas bar near London Bridge. Again fairly expensive but really good food and wine.
For somewhere cheap, nice and also healthy there’s Ev cafe near London Bridge.( Turkish).
The Scandinavian cafe behind oxford street is lovely for lunch. Try and get there near to midday or you might have trouble getting a table.
