Isle of Wight where to stay?

Any recommendations?

We've never been and have a week to visit next week. We have a 5 yo who loves the beach and rock pools so ideally somewhere near there with a pub within walking distance and possibly near a swimming pool in case weather is rubbish

We are happy to do hotel or S/C

Thanks

Highly recommended
pub 2 minutes away by foot
Beach 10-15 minutes and West Wight swimming pool is 5-10 minutes by car

Thanks looks nice I'll check it out

Also think my ds would like to be able to play with some other kids so any recommendations of places with play areas etc welcome too

I see there are lots of holiday villages with lodges and static caravans.. not really done these before but might work too ..

I've just posted on your other thread, but I'll post again here!
Looks like they might still have accommodation here. www.hoseasons.co.uk/holiday-parks/nodes-point-pnod?adult=2&nights=7&range=3&start=3-4-2018&sortorder=12
Not exactly high society, but clean, affordable and indoor pool (with water slide!!). Direct beach access too.
I agree that Shanklin is great, but this isn't a bad location either. Wet weather activities nearby include the Steam Railway and the amazing Dinosaur Isle museum. It's only 20 minutes drive to Newport, the capital. Robin Hood Country Park is a great day out for a 5yo. There's also Carrisbrooke Castle, a butterfly greenhouse, a shipwreck museum and JR Zone which is the best indoor play centre.
