Do they actually check ages of teenagers for family rooms?

I shared a family room with ds at Christmas and he's 15, if this helps.

thanks
they have a rule about 16 and overs count as adults and dont allow 3 adults to use a family room. Dd is 17, so it would cost us twice as much. I found another hotel that allows 17 yr olds in family room now.

Ive gad 3 adults in a family room for 2 nights. But we never arrived at the same time/left due to different schedules etc. We ate at breakfast and no one checked our room number. But I've stayed in another PI and they always take room numbers there. Why the bloody difference!?

Sorry for the hijack, but do they set up 2 additional single beds @ Premier Inn if you say there are 2 children in your booking?

I have only stayed in family room with one DS.

Yes, you get two extra single beds in the room if you have two children.

We have the opposite problem to the OP, we have three children and I'm wondering how long I can get away with saying DD2 is under 2 and needs a cot! They will allow two children and an infant in one room, but not three children all requiring a bed! Luckily DD2 is very petite, she'll be 3 in two weeks but only weighs 26lbs and is on the 9th centile for height too.

We have three nights at a Premier Inn in Glasgow booked at the end of this month, and one night at Heathrow in May, and I've just booked one room for us all. My argument is that DD2 still sleeps in a cot anyway, regardless of the fact that she's nearly three, so I can't have a bed for her in the hotel as she'd never sleep in it!

Thanks for posting this, we regularly use Premier Inns. dd is now 15 and so far we haven't been asked her age, but we will need to think about this soon.

I was just scratching my head over the same issue. We've got a 16-yr-old and were already stretching it by going away at all. We can't manage two rooms, but the 16-yr-old looks 14.

I ended up booking a Hampton by Hilton for the same price and free breakfast and 17 year olds are allowed in family room, and looks like a better setting.

On trip advisor there was a review for the premier we wanted to stay in that questioned a 16 year olds age and wanted them to pay for another room, so they found somewhere else that night.
DD still has braces and doesn't wear makeup so I think she could have got away with it. However she came home that day and said her braces were coming off in 6 weeks Grin so I was glad I booked somewhere else.

Yeah dd is still shorter than me and could easily be considered 13 or 14 so perhaps we will be able to get away with it for a bit longer i.e. until the end of Y11. Am not sure if she would be able to keep it quiet though!
Thanks for recommending the hotel chain - wonder if there's one near grandma!
Oddly when we go to France we have no problems booking a Triple room for 3 adults at a budget hotel (Ibis budget). (Children count as adults from 12 years old there)!

A quick update. It looks as if Holiday Inn also allows children up to the age of 18 to share a family room with parents. (You have to pay for breakfast from aged 13 though).
They also allow 3 young children to share a room with their parents so this should help some of the other posters too.

also note that Premier Inn policy has changed since this thread was written. It used to 16 and over classed as an adult to book a room but it's now 18. So I don't see why a 15 and 19 year old couldn't share a room. I'd suggest that the 19yr old takes proof of age ID in case they get asked.
