Cornwall and around there

We have friends getting married on Bodmin moor next year, its a while weekend thing (including accommodation at the venue), we are based in Yorkshire so quite a travel for us so wanted to make the trip into our holiday next year, ds will be 21 months by then (I'm hoping to be preggers with dc 2, I think)
I have never been to Cornwall so would love some recommendations on where to go, what to do, where to stay
It's school holiday time, happy to do caravan park, cottage etc just don't even know where to begin

We went to Cornwall on honeymoon and loved it! Stayed at self catering apartments at Watergate Bay right by the beach. Plenty of surf activity to do or several eating options including Jamie Oliver fifteen which was yum! Also it's not far from Padstow which is growth for kids to explore or go crabbing. You could stay in Padstow but its busy as its a real tourist hot spot - rick steins many food places, lobster hatchery, crazy golf and lovely ice cream!! Head to Tintagel Castle to explore the King Arthur myth. Eden project isn't far and great for kids. Basically I would head back in a flash! Ooh and camel valley vineyard is a must - stock up!!!

Thanks, I literally don't know anything about Cornwall (other than where it is and the Eden project)

I'm looking forward to it and want to make the most of the time down there, think I've talked dh into making it a 2 week trip

Definitely, so much to do so you need a day off to chill at the beach every other day. I'd really recommend Watergate Bay as a base for exploring the area. Or wadebridge has a lot of options too and you can cycle from there to Padstow along the estuary. I love Cornwall!! Great food. Enjoy x

I agree that the Wadebridge area is a goof base. Close to Bodmin area for the wedding, close to fab beaches, and quite central to other parts of Cornwall without travelling for too long.

Things to do/places to visit:
Eden Project - as mentioned. I go there around 4-5 times a year, different each time (have an annual pass), love it.
Lost Gardens of Heligan near Megavissy
Looe - boat trip, shopping, eating - go on a train ride, beautiful scenery
St Ives, Penzance - lovely to plod around, lots to visit, galleries etc
Head over to St Michael's Mount.
Go to the Minnack Theatre to see a play - this is on the edge of a cliff by the sea.
Beaches! So many to chose from. But near wadebridge there are lots of fab beaches, walks et - Polzeath is a large sandy beach with great waves. Busy in holidays but still great to visit, great ice cream hut, places to hire out wetsuits and bodyboards or surfboards. Also Padstow opposite. Just driving to these places from wherever you stay will be lovely.
Several NT and English Heritage places to visit - Lanhydrock for example.

There is so much to do I could be here all evening, so other's will come along with some fab ideas to.

Think I've always just done beach holiday with dh so minimal thought goes into that!! Just lie and bake!

Just a few suggestions...

Cycle the Camel Trail - trailer bikes/buggies available to hire.

Daymer Bay, Polzeath, Constantine & many other amazing beaches.

Crabbing in the harbour at Padstow (make sure you buy the nets, not the lines and you will be much more successful! And use raw bacon as your bait).

Take the ferry from Rock to Padstow.

Cardinham woods for great walks/cafe/river/bbqs.

St Micheals Mount & St Ives definitely worth visiting.

Springfields is fab for younger children.

Train ride from Liskeard to Looe.

St Endellion Strawberry Farm with cafe and play park.

And don't forget to try Roskilly's ice cream when you visit.

if the wedding is near Bodmin then staying in SE cornwall would be easiest. straight up the lovely A38 not the A30 carpark. we much prefer the area around Looe and Polperro. more to do, quieter and nearer where you want to be. we stay Here it is very small child friendly with animals and a swimming pool. also try the cornwall tourist board their website is a good place to start.
