We are taking a trip to London and will be visiting the Science Museum and want to wake up, have breakfast then get there!

Happy to stay somewhere that is say 2-3 stops aways but not sure what area we should select as not familiar with London and districts.

2 of us plus DD - happy for a chain of hotels not B&B or guesthouse we like big lively hotels, but its more the area I need advice on

Well I would check out where the Premier Inn/Travelodge type hotels are and base your trip accordingly, unless you are prepared to go more upmarket with hotel chains?

Three stops on the Tube in any direction from South Ken would take you to Notting Hill/Knightsbridge, Victoria/Pimlico, Sloane Square/Gloucester Road, Earls Court/Hammersmith, Paddington/Marble Arch.

I know that there is a bus which goes from Wandsworth Town/Clapham Junction which will take you straight to South Kensington Station (which is but five minutes walk from the Museums). Although it might take slightly longer you might find that if you are prepared to gaze out of a bus window you can stay somewhere a bit quieter or for slightly less money!

Transport for London journey planner might be helpful to you.

PM me if I can be of any further assistance!

I've stayed at the Earls Court Premier Inn on Knaresborough Place and it was fine, we walked to Royal Albert Hall from it so the Science Museum would be walkable, but Earls Court tube station is just at the end of the road to it.

Try Bayswater. It's a 20 minute walk across Hyde Park. I walk it every day, and its a lovely walk. There are stacks of hotels here.

Is Hammersmith fairly ok for South Kensington where the Science Museum is do you think as Ive found a hotel there?

I would say so - there's quite a big bus station at Hammersmith and essentially South Ken and all the museums are just further along the main road which runs through Hammersmith further in to London! Also, Hammersmith has its own attractions - nice walks along the Thames, The Dove, theatres etc....

I'm biased! Bayswater is slap next to Kensington Gardens/Hyde park (and Holland park) and walkable to south ken, harrods and the west end (I hate commuting, so prefer to hoof). There's also Portobello (if you must) and British Museum (you really must) a short trip away. I'm a bit 'feh' on H'smith.

Has anyone stayed in Baden Powel House? Can't get closer to the museums than that! I suspect it may be one up from a youth hostel though!

I stayed at the Hammersmith Premier inn with my DH & 2 dcs 3 years ago. It was great. We walked to the Natural History MuseumSmile
