DS who is 4, wants Lego everything this year for Christmas..last year was Playmobil, the frustration of bloody every part that is able to come off I.e apples on the trees, flowers on bushes etc..drove me nuts! I ended up gluing things together!

In school they have lots of Lego..hence why this year the list is all Lego!

Can you actually play with it without it falling apart?
Or do I need to get lots of glue and spend days sticking things together?!

Someone please fill me with hope!!

OMG have you watched the Lego movie? The fun of Lego is making the original, then rebuilding and combining to make things of your own imagination and the options are limitless.

Part of the fun of Lego is taking it apart and rebuilding it, don’t glue it 😬 and real Lego won’t fall apart as easily as wilko ‘blox’ for example. Maybe buy a big box of ordinary Lego, it has an ‘ideas’ sheet in it, and let him have fun creating whatever he wants

It does fall apart. That’s the nature of Lego.

How much of a problem that is depends on how much your DS likes things like Lego sets to look the way they do on the box. But there’s always the Lego sets that are basically a big box of blocks to build whatever you like, rather than the ones where you build a car / house etc.

DS2 is particularly fond of dismantling sets after they’re built and reassembling them in random ways. That’s less frustrating now that he’s better at following building instructions by himself,

You can't glue lego! The whole point is that it can be made into a model then taken into pieces and re built. It's a much better toy than play mobil!

At 4 I'd get a mixed box rather than a particular model set. I call it free range Lego, as you can build whatever your imagination allows.

Yes I am guilty of gluing unnecessary parts that come off together.
The day that I was walking around the supermarket and thought 'my foot is killing, what is in my boot?!' I took my boot off in the middle of the supermarket, and a bloody wing mirror off the ambulance rolls out on the floor, was the straw that broke the camels back!!

But after all the replies, I will make a promise to you all to not glue together any Lego Grin

Thank you for the idea of just a big box of random Lego pieces, to build what he likes.
I think that's a much better idea, than the individual sets Smile

Lego keeps the kids busy and creative. Let it fall apart always and let you kids build it in his own way.
