We got this for Christmas and they all love it. Thinking about putting some similar games on our wishlist. Pandemic seems quite similar and maybe more scary so wondering what else is out there, co-operative and challenging but not impossible. The dc will be 9, 7 and 4 (he plays with an adult or sister).

We're loving Whoowazit? Challenging enough for 8 year old cousin, but our 4 year old can still manage it.

Also have Castle Panic on my wish list for when he's slightly older.

I think Whoowasit may have been discontinued, which is a real pity, as it's great.

It's not quite the same as you don't play in teams but Labyrinth is a good game, clever moving board

Thank you for the forbidden island idea, just the sort of game mine enjoy. Carcassone is another good one, but again not quite the same

We already have labyrinth which they love but I think they are enjoying the co-operative aspect to forbidden island. Whoowasit where available seems quite expensive so maybe it has been discontinued.

If you've got some time (ok, quite a bit of time) then it's well worth looking up Tabletop on YouTube. It's hosted by Wil Wheaton and basically introduces you to a boardgame; quickly explains the rules and then shows him and 3 friends/celebs playing a game. It's how I discovered Pandemic (which is fantastic) and Forbidden Island.

Carcassone looks amazing, but a bit numbersy so it depends on how patient your DC are. I'm going to get it

Other games which look good are Takenoko and Qwirkle.
