... when standing in the almost dark, all the work done, all under one roof, and listening to lots of contented munching as the horses eat their dinner; safe from the biting winter wind and rain, for one more night.

I have had my fair share of life's trials, same as everyone else really, but each winter night I stand in the dark, listening to that sound and ... yet again ... think how incredibly lucky I am.

We've not long had our girl and I often pinch myself because I'm living the dream! This is mine and hubs first joint horse since we were kids. I can't believe how much joy they bring.

Sounds wonderful :) I'm lucky enough to live next door to a yard and I love the smell of the yard in winter :)

Glorious isn't it. I do a check on them at about 7 each night. Kiss their noses and check their hay. Perfect.

It really is the best! Perhaps strangely, but I get the biggest satisfaction from it when the elements and/or circumstances are throwing their worst at me. So if it's an out and out blizzard, you'll always find me standing in the stables, in the dark, just ... listening! Grin

Putting aside the cold, rain and snow. In winter there is nothing more satisfying than bringing my girls in, putting them in thier big snuggle Mark Todd PJs, dinner and a big haynet. Thus time of year they really appreciate it Smile

Oh yes . I love it when I've got a barn full of hay and straw , horses are tucked up in bed and their pyjamas , and I go out in mine at about 11pm to give out last hay and carrots . Although lately all 3 have refused to get up , and had both delivered under their nose so they eat it laying down . Lazy buggers that they are .
