My very tiny totally chicken DD2

took her wee pony over trotting poles today by herself for the first time (without big sis as a runner or anything)

Yes - she's never really been able to before as she's short in the leg and totally chicken but she is over the moon

Aw that's brilliant. Can't wait til my DD is old enough to start. I'm unable to ride anymore as I broke my back two years ago in a very stupid riding accident, and although I can walk no problem, have been warned the slightest fall could really feck things up for me.

DD will be my excuse to get back into the horse world. If she's that way out of course. I would love her to experience how fun being with horses is, as I really loved it. Obviously I hope she doesn't break her back falling from a (admittedly difficult) pony half my size while trotting on the flat like I did

I think horses, dogs and cats are brilliant at giving children confidence. I was ridiculously shy and chicken and horses gave me my confidence.

That's brilliant.I know from experience just how hard it can be for little children to get a pony to do anything without a runner.[speaks as owner of 2 small for age dds who are so light that pony doesn't realise there is anyone on her back].

Mirage - that's it, she's so small and her legs are too short to reach below the saddle flaps. And she's so light the pony doesn't even know she's there

Cheria - I agree about the confidence - and it's great for them to have the responsibility of looking after an animal you can't ride though
