Advice on TLR please

Hi all. Can you please advise me: I’ll be the only teacher in department so in charge of developing the curriculum etc. But I have no TLR - is this reasonable? I’m thinking as I won’t be managing anyone that’s why. I assumed I would be getting a TLR but contract doesn’t mention. Thank you in advance for your replies.

It depends on the school.

Many schools won't give you a TLR for this but will give you a title that represents the position.

It may well be worth contacting the school and finding out.

Thank you Fripp - I’m worried I might come across badly if I do this. What’s the best way to find out?

I would say if you are just teaching a subject and you are the only teacher teaching it then you wouldn't be entitled to a TLR.

You will likely have another HOD above you (eg in my school only one person teaches sociology but the head of social science is above them) who will do the exam entries etc.

TLRs are usually for those who are managing the teaching of more than one teacher. Also - surely it would be in the advert if you were entitled to a TLR?

There was no advert I basically just sent my CV to different schools in area.

Thanks sd. That makes me feel slightly better as I thought maybe I should be getting one.
