When will they shortlist?

I know no-one really knows, but in your experience, how quickly do you hear from a job application?

Deadline is this Monday 9am. I sent the application by email on Thursday night and hoped I'd get a reply confirming receipt yesterday but nothing yet.

Would you call the school to check they received the application or is that too desperate? (I am desperate to get out of my current school tbh!)

When might they shortlist / contact me?

It's an AHT job in a secondary school if that makes any difference. Thanks

I’m in the same boat (for a different position at an Independent school). I called them to confirm receipt as I didn’t get a read receipt for my email, receptionist said she didn’t know when shortlisting would take place. Now to play the waiting game!

Sorry but that’s way too soon. You just have to wait it out. It depends on so many factors ie number of initial applications, availability of people doing the sift etc.I do a lot of recruiting and a call before the deadline wouldn’t impress me just irritate me.

Have either of you heard back yet? I also applied for a job with a Monday deadline, but haven't heard anything so I'm not feeling too hopeful!

Well done @Clarabellawilliamson and @FashionFoodLaughs that's brilliant! What roles did you apply for?

I think the luck isn't extending to me as no news yet Sad they say they'll take references before the interview so hoping that's why the delay - but my references haven't been requested yet AFAIK

Mine is in an independent school, quite a niche post so shan’t go into details. Am thrilled but wonder how different the format will be to interviews in standard secondary schools.

How did you get on @Clarabellawilliamson?

Oh god what a crazy day! DS woke up at 5.30. Boiler broke so no heating or hot water, then went to get in the car to drive there and had a flat tyre!! Had to get my dad to give me a lift!! There was only two candidates and the other withdrew herself halfway through the day so it was just me!!

I decided to lay out what I wanted in term of part time etc and they are going to get back to me with an offer tomorrow!

That’s amazing that you set out your stall and were unflappable in the face of adversity. I really hope they hire you x

Thanks! I'm in the very fortunate position of if they offer what I want I will take it, and if not then I'm ok with staying where I am for a bit so I thought I might as well be honest. It was a very strange interview though as they just scrapped their prepared questions as they didn't need to ensure fairness anymore! Good luck for yours Smile

Boo, just heard back- they can't make part time work so no offer for me! Oh well, it really is their loss!

Report
FashionFoodLaughs · 11/03/2020 16:58

Yes completely their loss. It is quite an exciting time for jobs at the moment with lots coming up it seems. Hope you find the perfect job for you x

Definitely their loss, but it's still nice to know they wanted you otherwise!

I've got an interview on Friday, although the more I research about the school the less sure I am that I want the job... sent off 2 more applications today though so fingers crossed for 1 of them!
