I am currently off work with stress following a child making a false allegation of assault against me. Despite work being amazingly supportive I began having panic attacks just being in the classroom and have totally lost confidence in myself.

I am a TA and have always adored my school and job. Am now struggling with the thought of going back. Any advice on getting my head straight would be massively appreciated.

Can you ask for a phased return? it might help to feel that you only have to be brave for a few hours at a time.

Can you ask for a counselling referral?
I'm finding this is really helping!

Thank you both. Yes, a phased return is on the cards after half-term. I was given a number for telephone counselling by the school but found it too impersonal. I'll ask my GP.

Am still gobsmacked tbh. Thankfully, my name was cleared very quickly but the accusation is still known by children at school. Sad

GP suggested self-referral to counselling service, so have done that. Hopefully it'll help. Just can't believe this has happened.
