Life after teaching!

I have another thread on the go and have resolutely decided to pack in teaching. With my PGCE included, I've given seven years to the profession but frankly it's killed me. It's killed my confidence, my enthusiasm, my drive, my mental and physical health and ultimately my mood has affected my husband and children so much it's not fair. So I'm out. Notice is handed in which is a wonderful sense of relief.

BUT now I'm scared. I need to work at least part time but what can I do? I've been "only" a teacher the majority of my post grad life (I'm nearing 30).

Tutoring is the obvious but it's not steady. Ultimately I'd love to work from home, for me (wouldn't we all?).

Any ideas?

Buying some stock and selling it on eBay, Amazon, your own website? I think the market is very saturated in this area now though and you need to be very good at knowing what sells, ideally something that is small so cheap to post. You'd really need to do your homework - watch for what sells well with good margins etc

What's your degree in?

I work in education; have a look at the job pages of your nearby local authorities and you may find all sorts of jobs that are education related, advisory roles, project roles, admin, clerks to governing bodies ( a lot of which are home based except for the actual meetings). Also there are roles like school transport escorts who accompany children with SEN in minibuses. I have colleagues who juggle several of these roles and although the money isn't always great it suits them very well and can often lead to bigger and better things. Good luck.
