What Grade/Score/Percentage is a "Pass" in the GCSE Sciences??

I ask, as my nephew will take GCSE Double tier Science in the following year [AQA exam board] and he is utterly confused and apprehensive on whether its a Grade C or if it's a D!

All he was told by his teachers that:
"you MUST pass, if you don't then you have up to 3 chances to do so".

Also- I'm sorry to be a pessimist but he struggles with science, so what if he fails on the 3rd attempt? sad

I'm now scared for him and just want to give him answers even if they are not what he wants to hear!

Please answers on this specific topic anyone!

He won't get a letter grade, he'll get a number from 1 to 9. No one knows what the grade boundaries are and no one will until August 2018.

At the moment, around 60 UMS marks is the boundary for a good pass (C grade in old money).

I suggest your nephew works hard and follows his teacher's feedback and asks for clarification when he doesn't understand something. He'll sit a mock GCSE exam. around Christmas time and the level he achieves for that will give an indication of how he's progressing. What's his target?

Locked out speaks the truth, no one, including the exam boards, knows the grade boundaries for summer 2018, they are not even set yet for 2017.
He does not have three chances to pass though. He has to pass it next summer. There are no resit opportunities until the following summer.
He needs to start doing abit now, make some flash cards with key word on one side, definition on the other. Buy a revision guide, as he is taught each topic he needs to check he can do the questions in there. Ask questions in class, if his teacher says he needs to do x, then do it.

In the new number grade system for English and maths this year, a 4 will be a pass and a 5 will be a 'good pass'. Everything else is anyone's guess!

Only English and maths fails currently require resits during post-16 education.
