Maternity leave worries

Hi! So I have literally just discovered I am pregnant with DC2, much to my surprise! In September I'll be starting a four day contract at my prep school (have been on 2.5 there since Jan this year after previous maternity leave). I predict that I'll be in the four day role for six months (all being well!) before I have to go off again. Does it sound like I should be entitled to maternity pay based on my four day salary, despite being in the role only six months? This is not planned, we are moving house today, and my contract is buried in a box somewhere so can't check it...just wondered if anyone could reassure me that it sounds likely I'd be eligible? I know my school may have particular rules, but just wanted to get a feel for how stressed I need to be right now!!!!

Six months seems reasonable for maternity pay yes. Although I would (discreetly) ask for a copy of the maternity policy.

You will have been continually employed so you'd qualify for maternity pay again. Smp will be based on the 4 days earnings unless you vary it during the qualifying weeks.

Thank you for your replies. I'm glad it sounds reasonable at least..... Now I just need to work out how to sneakily find out for sure! (first day of hols...not looking likely!)

Is there a discreet person in the office still working for a few more days?

That's a good idea, thanks....will try on Monday, I think. Just been googling - I'd forgotten how complicated all that SMP stuff is!

Is it an authority maintained school? If so then as long as you have continuous employment then you are entitled to the full maternity package and your maternity pay should be based on your income between weeks 17- 25.
