PGCE primary student

I found out today that I will be having a PGCE student in my class for 4 weeks from Monday. I have had students before and enjoyed the experience but none of them have been PGCE. I haven't received any paperwork yet, but wondered if anyone knew how much teaching they are likely to be doing over the next 4 weeks, will it be whole class (I assume it will) or mainly group work?
Thanks for any insight!

In Secondary, the students we have on first placement start observing and then teach part of the lesson with the class teacher supporting. We spend quite a lot of time planning lessons with them and then deciding which bit they will do. Some students have been cover supervisors and are quite keen to teach whole lessons from the start. They all end up teaching whole lessons by the end but class teacher stays in until near the end of the placement. Most of the time I stay and act as a TA.

Thanks Cynderella, sounds very much like the 4 year course students I have had in the past. I assumed it would be, the head said they didn't expect they would be teaching much which sounded wrong to me! I lived with a few PGCE students while at uni and they seemed to be full on teaching very early on! I was on the 4 years course though!

I did PGCE Primary. We observed for a week or so and then gradually increased upto about 60% teaching. It was full class. Different universities though are very different in their requirements.

I'm about to start this placement. We observe for a week, then do group tasks for a week and whole class if we feel comfortable, then whole class for the final two weeks but not all lessons. We are told which lessons to teach eg. One science, 5 English etc, about 30% teaching.

It will depend on the uni requirements, I was expected to teach 40% whole class lessons on this placement focusing on Literacy and Numeracy after observing initially then teaching some small groups.
