Interesting to watch the body language today. Why on earth does MM fiddle CONSTANTLY with her hair? She seems unable to sit still really. I assume it's nerves but it looks really silly. I thought she and the Queen looked like they were getting on famously, but MM just seems to lack gravitas . She looked out of her depth.

It's very windy today, so I imagine that she's trying to stop her hair from flying around everywhere and ending up a knotted mess. I bet we see her in a bun and hat next time there's a gale blowing!

She probably is nervous, most people would be if they were parachuted into that situation.

Well she does lack gravitas but she’ll learn and grow into her role I expect.

It looked windy she was without Harry but with Granny in law who just happens to be queen etc etc I think I would be nervous too she and Queenie looked relaxed together though which is lovely. Why are you referrering to her as Meghan Markle I noticed somebody on TV still calling her M M too

Well of course she’s out of her depth, wouldn’t you be?!
She seems to look for Harry for reassurance a lot so without him there and with all the scrutiny she’s been under and a million people just waiting for her to do something wrong so they can pull her apart she must be shitting herself
I don’t recall Kate ever doing anything like this with just the Queen and she’s been around a lot longer and seems to be much more comfortable with it all, I do wonder why it’s been arranged like this

I can't remember catherine doing it either maybe she did the DoE has retired so maybe a bit of support for the Queen and some on the job training for the Duchess.

She’s probably very nervous.

I know I would be.

It was also a theatre opening maybe they thought it would interest Meghan

What's her name now that it's not Meghan Markle? Meghan Windsor?

If I were Queen I would wear a diamond tiara every fucking day. Because I would be The Queen.

They looked like they were having a nice time together. MM's dress got quite creased around the middle from when she was sitting down. Not a problem I have in my Gap outlet joggers.

Kate has done a duty on her own with the Queen, it was shortly after she got engaged or married, I can't remember which, but she did do it.

I thought they looked great today. I expect Meghan prefers having her hair up but then people complained about the 'messy bun.'

I'm the same and fiddle with my hair constantly when it's down because I don't really like it that way.

Imagine how you'd feel if you were in a new job, in a foreign country and had suddenly been told that you had to go out on a large public event and be with the managing director - you'd feel nervous, yes?

Give her a break!

I am not sure what she is called now Meghan Sussex? I just think it is odd people are still calling her Meghan Markle I wasn't having a dig at you Op just wondering.

Megan started fiddling with her hair when the lady who greeted them off the train curtsied to her. I suspect she felt a bit flustered and maybe a little like a plank

Has she been curtsied to in public before? Must feel a bit odd!

What's her name now?

Good question!

Assuming she's changed her name: Prince Harry was known as Harry Wales when he needed a surname (school, Army) so that could be it. Or they might both be Sussex now. Or possibly Mountbatten-Windsor, or Windsor. They don't really need one day-to-day, do they?

Bluntness100 · 14/06/2018 14:39

They seemed as relaxed as they could be and enjoying each other's company. It's windy and she's clearly trying to stop her hair flying around.

Honestly I think you're just looking to have a go. She certainly didn't look silly.

Go read a good book or something. Sigh.

brizzledrizzle · 14/06/2018 14:49

She's probably Rachel Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Cambridges call themselves Cambridge not Windsor, so I suppose she is Meghan Sussex . It's all so ridiculous. I watched a video of her sitting with the Queen and she literally fiddled with her hair the whole time. No wind.

I expect she’s nervous for lots of reasons, one of which is that her every move will be watched and scrutinised for hidden meaning. Like you’ve just done.

SoupDragon · 14/06/2018 16:23

Why are you referrering to her as Meghan Markle

Why are you assuming that’s not still her name? Plenty of women don’t change it on marriage.

MrsJayy · 14/06/2018 16:25

soup you might be right she might have kept her name Duchess Rachel M Markle vair modern

I just find it interesting that on MN, which is full of people who didn’t change their name, it is assumed that Meghan did. Same for Kate.

Meghan Sussex sounds daft anyway!

Why should she need to display gravitas at this event (apart from the minute silence, when she did)? She was there to support the Queen and it looked like they had a fabulous time, so job done.

She looked professional, natural, approachable and not scared of getting up close and personal with people - that's pretty much a A+ in terms of how I'd like to see a young royal family member behave and appear. The Queen looked chuffed to bits.
