The litter tray

How to change the microchip

About 2½ years ago, we were asked to take in a cat who was going to be homeless. The owner was a little sketchy with specifics such as whether the cat was insured, vaccinated, etc., but we sorted all that.

The only issue remaining is that his microchip will still be registered to the old owner. We can't contact the old owner (think he's changed his number) but do know the name of their previous vet.

Would our vet scan the cat for the microchip so we can change the details with the microchip company? How does it work?

You need the chip scanned to see which database they are registered with. I think you could then change the details

You get in touch with the chop company and ask to change it. I had to have a letter from the rescue for one of mine. But my parents managed it without one.

I think you can check on petlog which company it is, if you have the number.

Thanks everyone. I'll get him scanned when we revaccinate in July. Smile
