Cat worms, kids?

My cat threw up a long flat white worm yesterday, I'm really grossed out and worrying that my kids might catch them I've already treated the cats and dog again with a different brand then we usually use, and will treat again in 2 weeks. I've kept on top of worming but obviously it's not worked, they did catch fleas in the summer and from googling they can get the worms from ingesting a infected flea, so that may be the source, or the fact they keep bringing back and eating mice and rats from the field behind our house.
Is it worth going to the doctor's to get treatment for myself, OH and kids? Or am I just been dramatic as it's the one thing that makes my skin crawl.
Google is giving conflicting advice on how likely it is to catch worms from cats. Appreciate any advice.

It's tape worm. The chances of you catching it are non-existent. You need an intermediate host. Don't worry.

Thank you! I did think I might be acting a bit dramatic, I can happily deal with all the grossness that comes with having pets but worms are the one thing that make me cringe, I did the stupid thing of googling if it can be transmitted to humans, never a good idea to Google things like that!

The thought is much worse than the reality lol. If it helps my regularly wormed cat threw up round worms all over my chopping board and kitchen work top. If DH EVER found that out I think the cat and I would immediately find ourselves homeless
