Cat has low white blood cell count

So some may remember my post about my cat being poorly a few weeks ago. Well we took him for blood tests and it’s has come back he has a low white blood cell count. The vet seems to think it is a gastro type infection he has so we have a month of antibiotics to try help clear it and if he doesn’t get better then xrays and scans are the next step. He’s 10 and hasn’t really ever had any issues other than cat flu when he was a kitten. He also has one eye which is a slightly different colour to the other and doesn’t respond to light as it should. I’m pretty worried as I always thought low white blood cell count was associated with cancer? Has anyone else experienced this with their cat? X

It will depend on what type of white blood cells are low. Yes low lymphocytes can suggest cancer, low neutrophils would not suggest cancer.

Thank you so much, I’m not sure which one I don’t think the vet specified but he thinks it’s a gastro type issue so hopefully he’s not thinking the worst then
