The litter tray

Poo bum

Our dear old boy has painful hips and just isn't able to manage to clean himself. I took him to be trimmed but he's really struggling and I can't manage to catch him/clean him. He now has dingleberries and it must be stressful for him to be smelly. Does anyone have any ideas how to clean him up? He wriggles so much I've been trying to do it in the garden with flannels to prevent poo water splashing in the house, but perhaps the bath would be better?
Also he's always been to the loo outside not a litter tray - so I've little experience seeing it...is cats poo soft and squidgy or more like dog poo, as in more formed in shape? I'm wondering if his medicine (metacam) is making him a bit runny which is making things worse. Thank you

Cat poo is usually firm, my mum had a metal wide tooth comb for dangling poos.
