PetPlan problems

Anyone had issues with them? I insured my second cat with them years ago and they were brilliant as he got into all sorts of scrapes. They always paid out.

Now with our current cat; she’s an old lady (14/15) that we rescued 5 years ago. She had to get a few tests done on her liver and kidneys while they were preparing for dental work (that has since been postponed).

She’s fine but trying to claim back the money we paid is like getting blood out of a stone. It’s been almost a month and first they lost the claim form then found it, asked us to contact the vet for more info which the vet had already done and now they’ve written to me asking for information I already gave them! It’s become a farce!

Wish I’d just put money aside now. Pretty sure the claim will be refused if they’re doing all this feet dragging.

I never had any problems with them and we claimed a lot for our old girl. She became diabetic as a result of a damaged pancreas due to pancreatitis (amongst other things). The vet wondered if insurance would pay out due to link. However they completed their bit of the form and I have no idea how it was worded but they paid out no questions asked.
It does sound odd for them. I wonder if you can escalate it with them and perhaps your vet practise can help as I don't see why they wouldn't pay out for liver or kidney problems unless pre existing.

Were the tests necessary though? Was the dental work routine? Because most companies don't pay for routine dental care and the preceding tests, or for purely precautionary tests

We have recently been refunded and it was for a tooth extraction, however she is fairly young and probably due to trauma (fight) or virus. The vet did say that they don't always pay out for dental work in older cats. Could this be the reason?

I'm having problems with Tesco. They still haven't settled Snorgs cardiology bill from June!

I've had the "we haven't received enough information for your claim" roughly 7 times from petplan. I constantly rang, gave them the information and wait patiently. Then got the same letter again and again. Eventually they closed the claim, I reopened once more and provided them with the information, waited.. they closed the claim again due to lack of information.
Absolutely took the piss and decided my sanity is worth much more than the £300 bill.
That was after they called to ask if I'd like to re-insure my puppy with then and I called them a bunch of fucking tossers and rejected their offer.
They take the piss and I would never recommend them.

Wow Apositivemind! I had no idea they could close a claim for not enough information. Surely it’s the vet that has to supply the information. That’s awful. Hope your pup is ok now.

@WarCat the initial tests apparently revealed some worrying problems with her liver not linked to her teeth so then vet recommended we do more tests including a scan on her abdomen. Their quick check of her teeth apparently showed something called resorption and she needs at least 4 teeth removed which will cost another £1200. They couldn’t do the dental that day as she had been through a lot of tests (poor wee thing had been shaved all over the place) and was really stressed so we’re waiting until after Christmas to book her in again.

Thanks @Vinorosso. Your poor cat. Glad they were good with you. That sounds awful. I’ve been in touch with our vets and they weren’t much use either.

@toddlerteaplease was considering Tesco at one point! Cardiology sounds very serious. Hope Snorgs is ok (excellent name).

They wriggled out of paying for my cat's cystitis issues.

PetPlan are usually very good, pay within a week types. I would call again Monday morning and ask exactly what they need from 1. You and 2. the Vets, and keep ringing every couple of days until it's pushed through.

@FrankieChips apart from this issue with Tesco. I've been very happy with them. They've paid out over £15,000 for Snorg. (Real name Magic) and her late sister who had far worse heart disease. No quibble and always settled quickly.

Are you claiming from Petplan or is the vet claiming direct? I've never completed a form (other thank my details), the vet has always done this and sent it off. We did have one delay when we used an out of hours vet but it was the vet delaying sending off the info, not Petplan.

Petplan were excellent when Harry had his dental issues. The vet warned us there was a strong possibility they wouldn't pay but, as it was more complicated than just a dental (osteomyelitis and fractured jaw) they paid without a problem.

How is the darling boy these days? I haven't seen a picture for ages .

He's doing well. If he gets through until March it means a year with no mishaps and no claims! See the Harry thread for his latest pictures - I didn't want to detail this one!
