Catflap advice

My elderly rescue cat is happy to pop in and out of a taped open cat flap but has no clue what to do when it’s closed. I’ve tried the techniques I used with previous cats (repetitive posting, bribery) but he refuses to engage and would prefer to sit in the rain.

The flap (in the house when we moved in) has fallen apart and I need to replace it really. I also need to think about what we’ll do when the weather isn’t warm enough to prop the flap open all the time.

Any advice welcome. I don’t suppose there’s such a thing as an automatic flap is there? :)

I wonder if a softer flap like this might work:

You could remove the magnet strip to make it easier to nudge open.

My cat finds a slightly bigger flap easier so he has a small dog flap!
