Kidney problems

I took my cat Lisa to the vet because she has problems with her leg, apparently she has damaged her Achilles’ tendon somehow and her foot drops. They don’t want to do anything about it because of her age. She is 18. While we were there they did a blood test and the vet phoned today with the results. Some of the levels are up to do with the kidneys. Not exactly sure what she said but she thinks only one kidney is working. She is already on renal food because the levels were slightly elevated 6 months ago. We have to take her back next Thursday for them to check her blood pressure. I wondered if anybody could say what to expect. Will she get worse and what symptoms would she get. I know I can ask the vet next week. I forgot to ask today. Thanks

Mine (also 18) started on renal food, but is now on daily medication for her kidneys. She also has hyperthyroid and high blood pressure! Lots of pills! I've got very good at it, but it's not easy for us to go on holiday any more.
She's very much ok for now, but she needs regular blood tests to check the doses are right - and we have to be realistic that she won't go on for ever. An 18 year old cat is like a 90 year old human - something could get them at any time.

Thank you so much for replying. Everything else in her blood test was ok. She is also on other meds for a skin problem. They said check ups every 3 months. I didn’t realise they gave medication for kidney problems so that’s useful to know. I agree they can go on for ever. I just want her to be comfortable and not in any pain. Here is a pic of her. Harry has Ipakitine for his kidney problems which is a powder that is added to his normal food as he won't eat renal food. There are other things as well but this is all we could get him to take. He had absolutely no symptoms so I think we caught it early and when he hadn't a blood test at Christmas his levels were back to normal.

We've taken the decision not to have any more blood tests as there's nothing else we can give him and while he's ok we're going to leave him alone as he's been through a lot.
