The litter tray

Kitten litter tray change

We got a kitten at weekend, he's 9 weeks old and he was trained. He's done really well but I want him to use a litter tray with a lid and a flap.

I put it out for him on Wednesday and he panicked that he had nowhere to go so I put him in it. He did his business then came out. Later on, same thing didn't know where to go. So we decided we didn't want accidents we'd put the old tray out for him.

How do I teach him to use the new one? I hate the smell of the tray and really want it covered.

Thanks!

Take the door off it temporarily? He may just not be big enough to use it yet. It took my cats into adulthood to use the lidded tray

When I changed boxes, I took the lid off and got her used to it as just a box first. Then after a bit I added the lid with the flap off, and when she was used to that I put the flap on, and it all worked fine. Good luck with it!

Thanks for the replies! I did think he's probably a bit little for the flap.
