The litter tray

Public service announcement: Corned beef!

My ancient moggy has recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and has to have 2 pills a day.

Through trial and error we have found that the best dosing vehicle is corned beef. Turns out he loves it even more than Dreamies and can't get it down fast enough - and corned beef is easy to mould around a pill.

Give it a try next time you have to give a cat a pill.

Ah yes very true. Also Shiphams fish flavoured sandwich paste (that disgusting orange stuff in little jars that I remember from my childhood and can't believe they still make). Cats love the stuff and it's handily sticky.

Mine love cream cheese. I use it for the dog too. But definitely going to try corned beef as it's probably less messy, thank you!

Fatty says thanks for the suggestion. She has commanded her slave to procure some. Slave knows she won't eat it though and would prefer to stick to the pill giver!

Checking my pill giving/wrestling techniques with you all as I only have to do pill admin monthly when cat has flea tablets, however, she spits out the pocket and the pill separately,

I've crushed non-timed medication in cream cheese and rubbed on front paw so she has to clean it, rarely works as she rubs it off on some furniture

I also mix wormer powder up in some water and she is happy enough to let me syringe it in

Calming tablets on "scary nights" are OK, once she gets to lick the first one, they taste of beef according to my research and as a result, she has slept thru fireworks, fire engine call out and 2 Halloweens in complete oblivion,

Loxicom for cats, when she has been on it she knows how to play up completely as extra treats for taking it without a struggle and seems to like the taste as I've caught her trying to get more out of the bottle (didnt happen)

Also tried hiding in treats, licky sticks etc, so method i use now is sneak attack, burrito cat so only head sitting out, sit her on my knee, have syringes at the ready, blob of butter to help the pill go down and hold her mouth and keep her eyes covered, massage throat if I can and blow on her nose, I'm making it as hard as possible for her to hold in her mouth to spit out

as she sits on your lap, now need to follow with a syringe of water to make sure it's not sitting in her gullet

Apologies in advance if some of my words don't make a lot of sense, I use a speech to text programme and as well as that on topics where I might have discussed things before I tend to copy and past answers so it may not be 100% relevant, I do this as a means of coping with some health issues

Just saw this by chance!
Fish 'flavoured' paste tastes of fish because it is made of actual fish!
The reason it is still made is because people still buy it because they like it.
Fish paste, amongst other things pay my mortgage!
No additives, no flavourings, no preservatives and the company has been trading since 1750.
Here endeth the lesson about Shippams Wink

I like fish paste! Nice on hot buttered toast. Will try it on the moggies next time they need something. I usually use tuna - pill crushed and a tsp or so of tuna mixed in on a small saucer - making sure cat is hungry first. The Maine Coon also loves corned beef..

thefairycake. Well I apologise for disparaging Shippams (and for not knowing how to spell it). I still think it's disgusting but, if you work for them, you will be pleased to know that our clinic buys shed loads of the stuff for the very purpose of giving pills. We also tell all our clients to buy it - so we're helping sales :)

In other words, shippams ought to sponsor celia Hammond cat rescue.

£1 million a year & we'll say nice things about you.

Princes may counter offer.

They're the same company!
Don't worry, we don't really rely on fish paste to keep sales up these days!
My grandad used to love Bloater paste but we don't make it anymore ☹️
