Pram for cats

I've never seen them, until now. I've seen doggy pushchairs. I wouldn't put my cats in one. I suppose people have their reasons for using them, but I don't like the idea of them.

why not? i read up about them, they're recommended for indoor cats.

Just walk them on a lead and walk them. They can look at the outside through a window, I don't see the point of pushing them around outside.

Cats love being outside , smelling everything and snuffling around. A lead has to be better than a baby pram. What enjoyment would this give a cat?

I think it's because I don't like my cats to feel trapped. I want them to know that they can always escape from danger by running away. Not sure if that makes sense? And I couldn't pull it off - don't have the confidence!

Just have a cat flap and if you can't have a cat flap don't have a cat. Simple.

What a ridiculous idea (unless the cat genuinely has mobility problems). If the cat can't run free because of FIV etc, then lead-train them. It's psychologically better and helps prevent feline obesity.

I think they're a great idea... for a trip to the vets if you don't drive and your cat's a bit on the heavy side.

I have an indoor cat (medical reasons) and take him out for walks on a lead. He has a good sniff about, marks his territory, chases leaves etc which is the point of him going out. Couldn't do that in a pram.

I saw them in the casinos in Vegas all the time for both cats and dogs. Didn’t bat an eyelid after a while.

Indoor cats. Tried the lead, but they objected. They don't go outside by themselves. Too scared

sorry but I think they look pretty daft, it's designed to look like it's a baby in a pram which cats are not.

Saw a very happy cat in a pram like this going for a walk in Central Park last week.

Yes I’ve seen them in nyc as well. Maybe it’s because cats are mainly indoors over there?

No way would I use that, it's essentially a cat carrier on wheels.
Unless maybe I had to walk to the vets a short distance and for whatever reason couldn't lift the carrier, I suppose it does have use in that regard, but I wouldn't expect my cat to enjoy it any more than he does being in a carrier.

Why do people make their cat stay indoors? Genuine question. My mum has always had cats and they may disappear for a day or 2 but they come back.

@GlitterGlassEye it's a really contested topic as to if it's ethical or not, but the gist could be anything from owning a breed that is recommended to stay indoors (like some Persians for example), or perhaps there's been a spate of cat related crimes/theft. It's also possible the cat is unneutured and used for breeding so doesn't go outside to mingle with other cats, but good breeders would have outdoor cat patios or runs :)

Or maybe people live in appartments like they do in big cities? Or in countries where there are lots of predators. My relatives in Canada have never had outdoor cats. Saying that they do have fab cat trees over there and other furniture plus they have huge basements.

I have 3 cats and a dog and take them to the vet in shifts of 2. When I was sorting the appt for the next day I turned round and a woman had 3 giant moggies in 1 of them. She only used it to transport to the vet. We had a hearty debate about who’s way was better. She won because it convinced her neighbors she was unhinged so they stopped trying to sell her Avon.

My cat used to sleep in the basket of the pram, it was a deep fabric one with a tie up top that he would squeeze into. He's black and so was the basket. One day I left the house and didn't notice he was in the basket until we got to the church hall for the toddler group. I bent down to put ds's sippy cup in the basket and out popped a cat head and a little meow of annoyance that I'd disturbed him. After that he came for lots of walks in his pram basket. He was miffed when the pram had to go and for a while I kept the pram just for the cat, youngest DS is 5 now. I would never replace it with a cat pram though, that might be a step too far, but I'm sure he'd love it.

@GlitterGlassEye There are many cats who can't go out for various reasons e.g. FIV, disabilities etc. There's also the issue of traffic (depending on where you live), and the horrible fact of people who seem to enjoy torturing animals - there was a thread the other day about keeping cats in over Halloween & Fireworks night, and somebody said their cat had had a firework jammed in their cats mouth and lit! .

I know someone who has a cat backpack..they go walking a lot and take the dogs (on leads) and the cat in the backpack until they are away from people then the cat goes on a lead.

I could probably see a reason for using the pram if you dont drive and have a heavy fucker like Ernie
