We're getting some kitties.

Hi everyone.

I am super excited. We came to the decision last week that we would like to adopt some kittens. My 9 y/o ASD son has been desperate for a pet for so long. He's an only child.

We have decided to get two kitties from the same litter.

I've had a few kittens and cats in my life, but not for many many years.

Give me your best tips.
What should I prepare for?
What should I buy in preparation (other than the obvious)

I adopted two kittens - sisters - about a month ago - they're 4 months old now. They will eventually go outdoors at night, but at the moment they're confined to the kitchen and utility at night, with their litter tray in the utility. I decided to go with one litter tray, which they share, and I buy the cheapest cat litter and change it completely at least once or twice a day. In between times, I use nappy sacks as poo bags.

I'd recommend hiding any precious ornaments or other fragile things as my two have no care for my possessions, especially if they're busy hunting flies!

They like to play with those cheap light weight ball pit balls - they actually will actually grab a ball between their two front paws and throw them! Balloons have also been good fun - for a short time!

Oh, and for quiet times in the evening, they enjoy watching Youtube videos of kittens.

Insurance is a must.

You need insurance from the day you bring them home. Enquire at the vet for a deal for worming/jabs/flea treatment. You can often pay an annual pay which covers all of that. And get them neutered as soon as possible.

Kit-wise - they'll need bowls for dry food, wet food and water. Litter trays (one per kitten, plus one extra), a scratching post and toys. Mine love anything with catnip, ping pong balls and those feathers on a string.
