The litter tray

How much do your kittens eat?

My 2 kittens will be 5 months in a couple of weeks and I was wondering how much other people's kittens of a similar age eat. They have a pouch each in the morning, sometimes more at lunch and then a pouch each at dinner. Dried food is left out for them as and when. They always seem hungry. The vet told me that as kittens they are so active that you should feed them when they are hungry. When should I start restricting their food intake?
They are certainly not over-weight, they go outside and have recently been neutered. Thanks.

I currently have 7 kittens all aged between 6-10 weeks (I foster for the cats protection) they have dry food out all the time and they each have three pouches a day.
I wouldn't worry about restricting their food until they are older and slow down. They are growing loads, think about how much teenage boys eat.

Thanks, mine sound pretty normal then. 7 kittens, wow, hats off to you for doing such a brilliant job.
They are both supposed to be Birman-Persian mixes but I suspect their mother had many boyfriends as One of mine, the boy, is completely unfussy and will eat anything he's given. He's a black and white short haired moggy whereas his sister, is long- haired and looks more exotic and is is extremely fussy, she won't even eat plain cooked fish! She is also prone to the runs . I don't think the breeder was entirely honest 😉.

I just feed him as much as he wants, 8 month skinny BSH. Sometimes he is STARVING and other times doesn't eat hardly anytihng.

Probably approx 3 pouches per day plus dry food.

Kittens eat way more than adults, and most cats self regulate as they transition into adulthood.

Ours are 7 months old and were on 3 pouches a day plus dry until a couple of months ago. They're now on 2 pouches a day plus dry, but are probably taking on the same amount of calories - it's just that they're eating more dry food now. I think it's because their teeth are stronger now so they're not so adverse to crunching!

My 10 week old kitten seems to eat next to nothing. Maybe 1/3 of a pouch in the morning, a little dry food in the day (a handful) and sometimes another 1/3 pouch at night. I'm starting to feel a bit concerned.

Is your kitten lively and in good condition? I have had to try out different wet and dry food, some stuff they have turned their noses up at. TBH mine will eat the jelly/ gravy and leave the rest, particularly the fussy girl.

In our old house next door had a cat who liked to live in many different houses. He sort of belonged to lots of people . He was obese and always asking for food!

I think i must be tight with mine as i give her half a pouch twice a day but at the CP they were feeding her twice a day so i carried on. They also had her free feedibg dry so she has the 55grams of that like it says on the packet. She also has a big sister and helps herself to hers. She prefers cheapo wet food im just going with what she wants i had too msny fights with the first one!

We got our kitten a week ago from Cats Protection. She is 4 months old and we were told to give her 2 pouches a day and leave dry food out all the time. It has only been the past couple of days that she has finished all her wet food so might start introducing a pouch in the middle of the day also as she is now seeming to have a better appetite. She also seems to be pooing a bit more!

Yes- the trouble with all the eating is all the pooing. I have to clear the litter tray of poo at least 3 times a dayHmm

Why do you want to give her three full pouches though plus dry? Have you dealt with kitten sick yet? It smells like poo its horrible. I think if you are going to go to three times a day you still use two pouches. I was glad cp had mine on twice daily tbh it would feel like going backwards now if i give her more.

Lusvi work 12 hour shifts so twice daily suits me.
