We are finally in a position to have a cat and, obviously, we want to get our cat from a rescue or a shelter. Can anyone recommend a good place in or near London?

Celia Hammond! There is a poster who posts here regularly called the Catneuturer who works for them. Great organisation.

Celia Hammond are great and there's also Battersea. I got my cat from the Blue Cross, I drove a long way out of London to get her but they do have a London centre too, they were great and I'd definitely recommend them.

North London Cats Protection and sister site in Mitcham, Celia Hammond (as mentioned),The Mayhew. Some friends got a cat from New Hope Animal Rescue-not sure on exact location. Actually there's loads.
The shelters will have cats on their websites but may well have more but just no time to update them. Don't overlook the old cats, I had a great play with a lovely 13yo on my volunteering shift today.

Katz Castle near Cobham was where we got our two donkeys years ago.

Just wanted to give a quick update. We now have a gorgeous black and white moggie that we got from CPL. She already rules the house and none of us can imagine life without her.

Well, you know you have to post a pic of her now, don't you. Well done. Hope you have many years with your new furry friend.

just to let people know that at the moment a lot of the cats at battersea are actually coming from yorkshire, the rescue i volunteer from is now in collaboration with battersea, as we have a huge waiting list and battersea has no waiting list for cats to come in, so every so often we take ten cats off our list and transport them to battersea , we take friendly rehomeable cats down there

She's gorgeous and looks so relaxed. Well done for giving her a loving home. She will repay you a hundredfold!

She looks really beautiful and very much at home. Def agree that rescue cats repay you more than you can ever imagine, truly very special pets who will change your life. (As you changed theirs!)

Beautiful girl. I love B&W cats.
Issey I didn't realise cats were transported as far! I know CP move cats around their branches/adoption centres eg. indoor cats get homed easily in London and also get cats from other rescues. I think the charities/rescues working together is the way forward.

vinorosso we have cats living all over england that have been adopted from our centre ,word of mouth friends of friends , facebook page etc, and yes a lot of us local ones collaberate with each other, because we have a centre with pens we can quite often take in cats for other rescue locally that rely more on home based fosterers

She has developed a trick of twining herself round my shoulders and purring loudly.

DH says shoulder cat suits me Smile.
