Cat initiated toys

Our cat, who we initially thought of as a lazy beast has suddenly developed a love of play (coinciding with switching to a raw diet amazingly). He doesn't really like playing interactively with us though, and prefers to charge around making his own entertainment.

He loves string and crinkly tunnels. Any ideas on enriching his environment with toys or similar that will keep things interesting for him?

My cat loves to chase a ball around, we have a small soft foam one and also a ping pong ball! Also she brings feathers into the house and plays with those...... maybe a toy with feathers would go down well!

Our cat loves this game , she plays it by herself or sometimes we play with her.
It's not cheap but quite sturdy.

Cardboard boxes. Goodness knows what the fascination with them is. ( Reasonable sized ones.)

A ping pong ball in the bath can be entertaining.

Hair bobbles and primark bags. My cat also likes Lego!

cardboard boxes, paper bags (but cut the handles off so the puss doesn't get it caught around it's neck), ping pong ball, dried pasta on a lino/wooden kitchen floor, pipe cleaner spider on elastic that you can hand from doorknobs (our cat loves them but they only last a few hours as she loves biting elastic!).

These are great, thank you! A friend suggested some boxes for him to hide and ambush in so I'll get to work!

A stray cheerio on the kitchen floor does it for Ozzy.

BorpCat1 loves the Curious Box of Unending Mystery and Unimaginable Delight - a cardboard box with holes cut in and objects and treats inside to be fished out. Takes 5 mins to make.

Mine is obsessed with feathers - any old feather picked up while out and about. Hours of pouncy, killy fun. Also those little fur covered mice ( or ideally a live one if I haven't spotted him sneaking it in) and widgets from draught flow beer cans.

I have two cats. Brothers and they like quite different things to play with.
The black one (chick) likes shines things, scrunched up foil, gold bows off cams wrappings. He loves Christmas.
The other (Duck) likes boxes, pens, string and wiggly things.
They both like to chase each other up and down the stairs.
I have never had to buy cat toys for them, they have played with household stuff and each other for 11 years.

If you want to spend some money, my cats play with these for hours. You can get attachments to make it longer, too
